Our story

The Fintrano team, run by Iain Row, have been building software together for decades. Iain runs software development company Prominent Media, and his team have created software solutions for organisations such as The Open University, Phillips, and Siemens. When Iain discovered a problem that was affecting a wide range of small businesses, he and the team got to work researching and understanding what small businesses and their customers really need.

The idea for Fintrano was born in 2023 when Iain found himself trying to solve three problems all at once:

  1. There was a leak in his home, so an emergency plumber was on the way.

  2. Guests were about to arrive, and a dash to the shops for pizza hadn't yet happened.

  3. There was no way to find out how far away the emergency plumber was, and therefore if there was time to get to the shops before his guests arrived.

Surprised that the emergency plumbing company didn't have a system in place to track their workers, Iain started to connect with many small businesses in his network to see if such software already existed.  Although field service management software did exist, it was generally complex, not built specifically for UK customers, and not focused on the experience of the final customer - the ones waiting at home with their finger over a hole in a pipe wondering where their plumber was.

Ever the problem-solvers, his team started developing ideas for some software that might help trade businesses communicate effortlessly - automating confirmations and reminders, and sending live location links when the worker is on their way. Working closely with colleagues from local networking groups to find out what small service businesses really needed to improve their customer service, Fintrano developed from concept, to a solid creation - some robust software and app for iPhone and Android with the fingerprints of simplicity that comes from years of creating accessible software that's simple to use. The aim is always to assist skilled workers to do their job, without them having to be admin heroes or tech wizards.

As time has gone on, it has become apparent that this easy-to-use communication tool has benefits for businesses outside the trades. Anybody who visits anyone for work is a potential customer, and we have seen it used by financial advisors, will-writers and care providers, as well as numerous electricians, roofers, and other trades.

Since its launch, Fintrano has been constantly evolving to support the needs of its varied customers. Simplicity is at its core - it's important to Iain and the team that Fintrano does not try to do too much, but remains immediately accessible and easy to use. It will always be focused on helping service businesses communicate so well with their customers, that they build a stellar reputation before they even arrive at the door.
